Slow Cooker Brown Sugar Garlic Chicken

This tender, juicy chicken with a delicious sweet and savory glaze is an easy, crowd-pleasing dish made right in your slow cooker.

Ingredients:

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (or thighs)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 5 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
  • 1/4 cup water or chicken broth
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch (for thickening the sauce)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the slow cooker:
Place the chicken breasts (or thighs) in the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Make the sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, minced garlic, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, thyme, black pepper, salt, and crushed red pepper flakes (if using). Pour the sauce over the chicken in the slow cooker.
  3. Cook:
Cover and cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the chicken is tender and fully cooked through.
  4. Thicken the sauce:
Once the chicken is done, remove it from the slow cooker and set it aside. Turn the slow cooker to high. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with water or chicken broth until smooth. Stir the mixture into the sauce in the slow cooker and let it thicken for about 5-10 minutes.
  5. Serve:
Return the chicken to the sauce and coat it well. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over rice, mashed potatoes, or steamed veggies.

Enjoy the sweet, garlicky goodness of this slow-cooked chicken dish!
