Here’s a spicy and flavorful recipe for Shrimp Fra Diavolo!
Shrimp Fra Diavolo
Ingredients
- 1 lb (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (adjust for desired spice level)
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
- 1/2 cup dry white wine (or chicken broth)
- 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes
- 1/4 cup tomato paste
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar
- Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
- Cooked pasta, for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp: Season the shrimp with salt and pepper. In a large skillet, heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side until they turn pink and are just cooked through. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
- Sauté the Garlic and Onion: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil. Add the crushed red pepper flakes, garlic, and onion, and cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant and the onion softens.
- Deglaze with Wine: Pour in the white wine, scraping any browned bits from the bottom of the skillet. Let the wine reduce by half, about 2-3 minutes.
- Make the Sauce: Add the diced tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Stir well, then reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Finish with Shrimp: Return the shrimp to the skillet, tossing them in the sauce until well coated and heated through, about 1-2 minutes.
- Serve: Garnish with fresh parsley and serve over pasta, if desired.
This Shrimp Fra Diavolo brings a wonderful balance of heat and flavor! Enjoy!
