Sausage Spaghetti Recipe

Ingredients

  • 12 oz spaghetti
  • 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casings removed
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 24 oz marinara or tomato pasta sauce (your favorite kind)
  • 1/2 cup water or chicken broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp dried basil (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp dried oregano (optional)
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • Fresh basil or parsley, chopped, for garnish
  • Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving

Instructions

  1. Cook the Spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  2. Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sausage. Break it up into pieces as it cooks, and cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
  3. Add Onion and Garlic: Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the sausage, and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
  4. Add the Sauce: Pour in the marinara sauce and 1/2 cup of water or chicken broth. Stir well, then season with salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes if desired. Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
  5. Combine with Spaghetti: Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little pasta water to adjust the consistency.
  6. Serve: Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or parsley and grated Parmesan cheese.

This sausage spaghetti is rich, flavorful, and perfect with a side of garlic bread or a fresh salad. Enjoy your meal!
