Here’s a delicious recipe for a classic Pepper Steak. It’s easy to prepare and perfect for a flavorful, quick weeknight dinner.

Pepper Steak Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb (450g) beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil, divided
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup beef broth
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional, for extra flavor)
  • 1 tbsp sugar (or honey)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Cooked white rice for serving

Instructions:

  1. Marinate the Beef:
    • In a bowl, combine sliced beef, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, and cornstarch. Toss until well-coated and set aside to marinate for about 10 minutes.
  2. Sear the Beef:
    • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the beef in batches (if needed) and cook for 1–2 minutes on each side until browned. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Cook the Vegetables:
    • In the same skillet, add the remaining oil. Sauté the onions, bell peppers, garlic, and ginger until they’re slightly softened, about 3–4 minutes.
  4. Make the Sauce:
    • In a bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, beef broth, oyster sauce (if using), and sugar.
  5. Combine Everything:
    • Return the beef to the skillet and pour the sauce over it. Toss everything together and cook for an additional 3–5 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the meat and vegetables.
  6. Serve:
    • Season with salt and pepper as desired, and serve over a bed of white rice.
