  1. Make the dough:
    • In a small bowl, mix the warm milk, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
    • In a large bowl, combine the flour, remaining sugar, and salt. Add the yeast mixture, egg, softened butter, and vanilla extract. Mix until a soft dough forms.
    • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
    • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until doubled in size.
  2. Shape the donuts:
    • Once risen, punch down the dough and roll it out on a floured surface to about ½-inch thickness.
    • Use a round cutter (about 3 inches in diameter) to cut out circles of dough.
    • Place the rounds on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let them rise again for about 30 minutes.
  3. Fry the donuts:
    • Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan or fryer to 350°F (175°C).
    • Fry the donuts in batches, about 2-3 minutes per side, until golden brown. Transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to drain.
  4. Prepare the filling:
    • Whip the heavy cream with powdered sugar and vanilla extract until stiff peaks form.
    • Fill a piping bag fitted with a small round tip with the whipped cream.
    • Fill another piping bag with the jam.
  5. Assemble the donuts:
    • Once the donuts have cooled slightly, poke a hole in the side of each one with a skewer or small knife.
    • Pipe a little jam and then the whipped cream into each donut.
    • Dust with powdered sugar on top.
