Sausage Spaghetti Recipe
Ingredients
- 12 oz spaghetti
- 1 lb Italian sausage (mild or spicy), casings removed
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 24 oz marinara or tomato pasta sauce (your favorite kind)
- 1/2 cup water or chicken broth
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 tsp dried basil (optional)
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano (optional)
- 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional, for a bit of heat)
- Fresh basil or parsley, chopped, for garnish
- Grated Parmesan cheese, for serving
Instructions
- Cook the Spaghetti: Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the spaghetti and cook according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sausage. Break it up into pieces as it cooks, and cook until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat if necessary.
- Add Onion and Garlic: Add the chopped onion to the skillet with the sausage, and cook until softened, about 3-4 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute.
- Add the Sauce: Pour in the marinara sauce and 1/2 cup of water or chicken broth. Stir well, then season with salt, pepper, basil, oregano, and red pepper flakes if desired. Let the sauce simmer for 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.
- Combine with Spaghetti: Add the cooked spaghetti to the skillet and toss to coat with the sauce. If the sauce is too thick, you can add a little pasta water to adjust the consistency.
- Serve: Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil or parsley and grated Parmesan cheese.
This sausage spaghetti is rich, flavorful, and perfect with a side of garlic bread or a fresh salad. Enjoy your meal!
