Cabbage and Sausage

Here’s a simple and hearty recipe for Cabbage and Sausage:

Ingredients:

  • 1 medium head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 lb smoked sausage or kielbasa, sliced into rounds
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 tsp paprika (optional)
  • ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional for heat)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth (optional, for added moisture)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil or butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook until browned on both sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  2. In the same skillet, add the onion and cook until softened, about 4-5 minutes. Add the garlic and cook for another 1-2 minutes, stirring frequently.
  3. Add the chopped cabbage to the skillet, and stir to combine with the onions and garlic. Cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until the cabbage starts to wilt.
  4. Sprinkle the cabbage with paprika, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Pour in the chicken broth (if using) and cover the skillet. Let the cabbage cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it reaches your desired tenderness.
  5. Add the browned sausage back to the skillet and stir to combine. Cook for another 2-3 minutes to heat everything through.
  6. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
